Palmyra is a small farm on the outskirts of Still Bay
and a mere 3.2 km from the bridge that divides Still Bay into Still Bay East and Still Bay West. Here you can enjoy a
peaceful holiday away from the hectic pace in a beautiful environment.
It is situated next to the Goukou river and on a clear day there are breathtaking views that offer a 180 degree
view of the river and surrounding areas.

Activities

Still Bay offers the visitor a number of activities and sights that make this small coastal town the ideal destination for a relaxing holiday.

On this page we would like to offer you a glimpse of some of the activities and nearby attractions that you may find interesting.

Whales frequently visit Still Bay during the months of June and October.  The tranquil bay is a famous nursery ground for large numbers of southern right whale and humpback whales.

Southern Right Whales spend the summer months in the far Southern Ocean feeding, probably close to Antarctica. They migrate north in winter for breeding and can be seen around the coasts of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Mozambique, New Zealand and South Africa. The total population is estimated to be between seven and eight thousand

Stilbaai sports one of only 20 Blue Flag Beaches in the country.

The award of a Blue Flag beach is based on compliance with 29 criteria covering the aspects of:

1 Environmental Education and Information
2 Water Quality
3 Environmental Management
4 Safety and Services

The picture above depicts some of the artifacts discovered in the nearby Blombos Cave dating back to the Stone Age.  Various artifacts and replicas of artifacts are on display at the Still Bay Tourism Centre at Palinggat.

Still Bay golf club offers the following:
  • 9 Hole Golf Course with practice and chipping green as well as a practice bunker and driving range.
  • 17 Different tees
  • Golf carts and trolleys for hire at the clubhouse
The Pauline Bohnen Nature Reserve is a worthwhile area to visit, especially during Spring time to see the breath taking floral display.  Visit the Stilbaai Tourism Bureau, where you will have the rare opportunity of viewing the only tame eels in South Africa fed in the fountain adjacent to the Bureau. The environment at the Palinggat Fountain seems to be ideal for the eels.

Nowhere else in the country are so many eels concentrated in one secluded environment and as tame as the "Palinggat" eels. They are pampered and cherished by the staff of the Tourism Bureau. They are hand-fed daily on chicken livers at 11:00, excluding Sundays.
